This screensaver was inspired by the hit television show LOST. I'm not one to watch much TV, I'd rather blow away pixels in a game like Counter Strike Source, or if I am going to watch TV I'd rather watch something like the Mythbusters or a good Leaf game. But I must say that this show has demanded my attention since day one. It's refreshing to see a television show that is writen well and has nothing to do with reality TV. Anyway I was screwing around online reading some LOST info when I came upon a site, where a guy made a widget that mimicked the computer in the hatch on LOST. I wanted to try it out but alas it was for Mac only. LOL Mac only go figure.

Anyway being a Flash developer I thought "Hey I can make that with the actual beeping sound, and make it a screensaver and to access your desktop you have to input in the numbers, 4 8 15 16 23 and 42" like on the show. So I did. Ofcourse doing that everytime to get out of the screensaver might get annoying so I made 2 options to get out of it quick. ESC key will just exit and if you hit the C key, it will type the numbers for you and then exit. Also I thought the BEEPING sound might get annoying as well, so if you hit the D key it will turn the sound off and S key will turn it back on. Then I got to thinking, in the show the first time you see the ancient computer it wakes some one up (Desmond I think), so why not put in the option to use the LOST screensaver as an alarm clock that also remebers your settings so you can use it everyday. Just hit the L key and it will tell you everything. Hell ya! Take that Mac Widget making guy. So there you have it. GO LEAFS GO! .... <still laughing about that Mac thing...LOL>


Just to recap for those who don't like to read.
When in the screen saver....
Enter the following numbers in order, 4 8 15 16 23 42 thne hit enter. OR hit C key to let the computer enter it for you, OR just hit the ESC key.
L Key - Will bring up the main menu.
O-Key - Will bring up the Alarm Clock setings.
S -Key Will turn on the sound and D key will turn it off.

Okay these are some question that might come up:

Q: FISRT OFF, DUDE, does this screensaver come with SPYWARE, VIRUSEs, TRACKING or any Crap like that?
No. It's just a screensaver.

Q: Dude, How do I install this?
A: Download unzip and double click the EXE. If you don't have WINZIP use the download the EXE option.

Q: Dude, How do I uninstall this?
A: Goto your control panel and select Add/Remove Programs. Look for "LOST_screensaver Screen Saver " and hit the remove button.

Q: Dude, How do make sure it's installed?
A: After it installs it should automaticlly set it. But just incase..goto your desktop area, right click, you'll get a drop down. At the bottom of the drop down there will be a PROPERTIES button, click it. This will open up your "Display Properties".You should see a TAB called "Screen Saver", click it. There it will show you a monitor. At the bottom of the monitor the should be a drop down menu. The LOST SCREENSAVER will appear in that list. When you click it, you can click the preview button to see it. Also there is another box that asks you how long do you want to wait until the screensaver activates. Put the amount of minutes in there. Let me guess.... 108?

Q: Dude, Why do you offer a WINZIP and a EXE download? Are they different?
A: No, it's just some people can't download EXE files. The ZIP file has a "read me" file though.

When you're in the screensaver just hit the L key. That will tell you everything.

Q: Dude, How do I get out of the screensaver?
A: 3 ways.
- Enter the LOST numers and hit ENTER to exit (4 8 15 16 23 42).
- You can also the C key and it will type the numbers for you.
- Or just hit the ESC key and it will exit right away.

Q: Dude, why can't I just wave my mouse or tap a key to get out of the LOST screensaver?
A: Because it's based on the show's computer.Would'nt be much fun having a screensaver that just has a flashing cursor, also there are some settings for the ALARM CLOCK option that requires the use of your mouse.

Q: Dude, How do I disable the sound.
A:Hit the D key.

Q: Dude, how do I turn the sound on again?
A: Hit the S key

Q: Dude, How do I use the Alarm Clock Mode.
A: Okay first off, it's a 24 hour clock, meaning 1:00 pm is 13:00 and 1:00am is 1:00. You know the way the Military guys and the scientists like it.
Anyhoo when your in the screensaver hit the O key (Not zero) here you should see the current time and if the alarm is Enabled or not.
Just type in the hour and the minute you would like the screensaver to start BEEPING and hit EXECUTE button. If you had the sound on, this will obviously kill the sound until the time you chose activates it. If you have the sound off by hitting the D key, don't worry, the alarm overides that and plays the beeping anyway. Just make sure your speakers are on.

Q: Dude, Does the screensaver remember my alarm and sound settings?
A: Yes, it uses a small Cookie to do so.

Q: Dude, is this compatible with WIN 2000, WIN XP, Vista, and all that? (Updated)
A: well I made it on XP tested it on 2000 and Vista so those 3 work.

Q: Dude, Will you make a MAC version?
A: LOL.......no.

Q: Dude, Are there any LOST easter eggs in it?
A: Yes, just one.

Q: Dude, What's an Easter Egg?
A: Google it.

Q: Dude, Can you make this pop up ever 108 minutes like the show does.
A: Well then it would not be a screensaver, that would make it an desktop application - an annoying one at that. It would be fun for the first day, but get really annoying on the second. I guess you can set the screensaver to activate every 108 minutes?
Also there is an app out there that does that, I saw it a while ago. Can't remember where though. I prefer the screensaver because it actualy has a use.

Q: Dude, Is Counter-Strike: Source the greatest video game ever? (Updated)
A: As far as Multiplayer.. YES! Single player Half-Life 2 and I really liked F.E.A.R. as well. Looking forward to CRYSIS in the fall. PC GAMER 4 EVER!!!!

Crysis rocked, but the best MP right now has to be Team Frotress 2, alot of fun. Portal is great too. Infact just get the Orange box.
